I was just seven years old when my dad took me to Standing Rock.
I live in Georgia, so traveling to North Dakota allowed me to see more of the country than ever before. I remember saying, “where are all the trees!“ As we travel onto the Great Plains.
I got to meet one of my heroes, Nakho Bear, I saw buffalo, eagles, and antelope!
My dad says that the people that were at Wounded Knee in 1973 have something to be thankful for, and proud of, for the rest of their lives. He said that someday I will understand how important it is to have actually been at Standing Rock.
I miss the people that I met there, I miss the feeling of that place.
When I think about Standing Rock, I cry.
